Assignment Brief:
"LEGAL AND HUMANITARIAN RIGHTS"
As part of an initiative to raise awareness of citizenship and diversity issues, you are going to find out what the public views of what their legal and humanitarian rights are, and whether they protect the citizens in HK.
Task 1 P4
To achieve P4 you will write a written account that describes current/recent legal and human rights that protects citizens of HK. You will need to consider as a minimum:
Write a minimum of a paragraph for each, giving examples of how citizens are protected. Reference where you find your information.
Task 2 M2
To achieve M2 you will create a podcast/written interview in the form of an interview of any members of the local area. You will need to prepare a list of questions that address the protective legislation (such as those listed above). Take part in a group discussion over your results. Be prepared to analyse the information that you have found out. Be prepared to make some considered comments and conclusions on how effective these legal and humanitarian measures are at protecting the rights of HK citizens.
Sample questions.
- Do you know what your basic human rights are?
- Do you think employers are fair when recruiting staff in terms of disability?
- Do you know your legal rights if you are arrested and kept in custody?

- United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- Geneva Convention
- Hong Kong Bill of Rights Ordinance
- HK Police Force Ordinance (including any subsequent amendments of legislation)
- current HK Equal Opportunities legislation – Sex Discrimination, Equal Pay, Human Rights, Race Relations, Disability Discrimination, Freedom of Information, Employment Equality Regulations and any amendments and new legislation/ directives/measures to eliminate discrimination
